The Six Types Of Drinker You'll Find At Cocktails In The City

This is a sponsored article on behalf of Cocktails in the City.

With 25 bars under one roof and a wealth of multi-sensory drinks experiences on offer, you're positively spoilt for choice at Cocktails in the City. For three days in April, The Vaults (that's the subterranean maze of forgotten tunnels and railway arches under Waterloo station) becomes a cocktail lover's paradise.

With signature serves from the capital's favourite mixologists costing just £7.50 each, you're in for a pretty epic cocktail crawl — but how do you know where to start? Well, it all depends on what type of drinker you are...

The Nature Lover

Bourne & Hollingsworth's Garden Punch

If you think drinks taste better alfresco, then make a beeline for the Secret Garden, one of seven specially curated railway arches at Cocktails in the City. Choose your own garnishes from an array of hanging plants and sample botanical cocktails by Oxo Tower Bar, Nine Lives, and the Bourne & Hollingsworth group inside an oasis of flora and fauna.

The Party Animal

Some drinkers just have a knack for turning a post-work pint into a night out of epic proportions. If that sounds like you, bring your carpe diem attitude and infectious sense of fun to The Good Times Vault. Here the capital's best party bars, including Trader Vic's, Laki Kane and Trailer Happiness, serve up strong drinks, loud tunes and all round excellent vibes.

The Jetsetter

All about the art of aperitivo? Get a taste of la dolce vita in the International Negroni Lounge, where you can try a trio of the Italian tipple as London and Italy go head to head in a battle of the negronis — it's about the closest you can get to the drama and romance of Florence this side of the English Channel.

And if a trip outside of Zone 1 is enough to satisfy your wanderlust, the Hidden Gems arch will introduce you to plenty of great bars from all four corners of the city, such as Black Rock and Four Sisters.

The Sophisticated Sipper

If you're a fan of the finer things in life, look no further than the House of Luxe. Only the very best spirits will do in this sumptuously furnished arch, where London's most exclusive cocktail institutions whip up luxurious libations — like Gaucho's cacao-butter washed whiskey served with a side of biscotti.

The Retro Reveller

The Botanist Brew by Cahoots

Do you seek something a little bit different from a night on the tiles? Is a vintage tea dress or 'zoot suit' your ideal party outfit? The Time Travel Arch was made for drinkers like you. Here you'll find Cahoots' tube carriage-turned-1940s speakeasy, which hosts the most nostalgic of knees-ups, featuring plenty of Blitz spirit.

The Adventurous Spirit

From booze-infused smoke to jalapeño-spiked libations, drinkers like you will try anything once. Witness cocktail wizardry at the Experimental Arch, where maverick mixologists from Six Storeys Soho and TT Liquor show off the tricks of their trade, and learn how to create a whisky blend to suit your palate with The Vault, at Milroy's.

Cocktails in the City takes place Thursday 4 April-Saturday 6 April 2019 at The Vaults. Entry costs £20 and includes a free cocktail from the bar of your choice. All additional cocktails cost £7.50. Tickets can be bought here, but be speedy — last year's event completely sold out.
