A central London pub where you only pay what you think is a fair price for your drink sounds like a wonderful dream I had recently.
Except that the Fair Pour — a pop-up pub established by charity Oxfam, and charging patrons only what they feel is fair based on their net worth — will very much be a reality. For one day, at least: Tuesday 21 January.
Coinciding with the Davos World Economic Forum, the Fair Pour will take over the Queens Head on Theobalds Road, Holborn, from 12pm to 9pm. It will, in its own words "highlight growing inequality and call on people to join the fight for a fairer future as the gap between the super-rich and the rest of the world continues to widen."
If the whole 'one day only' catch is niggling, you should know there's another: all the drinks priced contingent with your own worth are also non-alcoholic: zero percent beers, wines and mocktails, including an Old Money Fashioned and Billionaire's Breeze. And needless to say, if you are a billionaire, probably keep your distance: got a funny feeling that mocktail is going to set you back some...
By the way, if you're looking for a non-non-alcoholic drink on the cheap, we've already reported that Market Place Vauxhall is slinging 17p pints of Asahi on Friday 17 January.
The Fair Pour, 64 Theobalds Road, 12pm-9pm, Tuesday 21 January.
