Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory Is Being Recreated In This London Hotel

The Sanderson Hotel invites you to a world of pure imagination, for a Willy Wonka themed makeover for Christmas — complete with giant candy canes, vintage sweet jars and a bubblegum scented garden.

The Fitzrovia Hotel — best-known for its equally quirky Mad Hatter's Afternoon Tea — will decorate its Long Bar in nostalgic touches in a nod to Roald Dahl's bizarre and wonderful imagination.

Overflowing sweet jars will adorn the bar, with giant candy canes, colourful ribbons and psychedelic swirls as the backdrop — but if you're thinking this sounds like something for kiddies, think again. A special cocktail menu features drinks — Wonka's Martini, Glop Glop and The Blue Meadow Star — designed to taste completely different to what their appearance would have you expect.

Wander through gates designed to look like those from the Wonka factory into the courtyard garden, scented faintly like bubblegum, which'll make a change from mulled wine candles.

When it comes to Christmas trees, The Sanderson Hotel tends to dodge the conventional. This year, we can expect to see a two-metre high 'edible rainbow tower' erected in the lobby, made from full vintage sweet jars, covered in fairy lights and topped with a giant rainbow lollipop.

Sanderson's Chocolate Factory is open to everyone, whether staying at the hotel or not, 27 November 2018-4 January 2019.
