Keep up to date with festive happenings in the capital on our Christmas 2026 in London page.
Beloved festive exhibition the Gingerbread City returns to London this Christmas for its 10th anniversary edition.
The tasty display, curated by the Museum of Architecture, pops up in London each year, showcasing a mini metropolis made from gingerbread biscuit and decorated with icing and sweets (though nibbling on the exhibits is strictly prohibited).
The Gingerbread City is designed and built by leading architects, engineers and designers, with practices including Foster + Partners, Hopkins Architects, Benoy, BDP, Sheppard Robson and Buro Happold taking part this year. The theme for 2026 is 'Future Forward', focusing on how the built environment can tackle climate change, sustainability and innovation head-on. But if you're just interested in getting a sniff of London's most delicious-smelling exhibition, that's fine too!
The exhibition's moved about a bit in its decade of existence, popping up at locations including Somerset House, King's Cross, Wembley, and the former Museum of London. This year though, it's heading back into central London, landing at Space House on Kemble Street (the rotund, honeycomb-like building just off Kingsway, a few minutes' walk from both Covent Garden and Holborn stations).
As well as viewing the work of the experts, you can have a go yourself; workshops take place on selected dates, including gingerbread-house making sessions (good luck getting it home on the Tube!) and cookie-decorating workshops.
The Gingerbread City is open 28 November 2026-3 January 2027, at Space House, 1 Kemble St, WC2B 4AN.
