Tasty annual exhibition The Gingerbread City is back in London this Christmas, consisting of a miniature metropolis constructed entirely from the festive treat.

Teams of architects, engineers and designers work together to construct the Gingerbread City, which is now in its ninth year, and offers a glimpse at what cities might look like in the future. 2025's theme is "How can we design cities that spark fun, curiosity and connection?", which lends a playful air to proceedings: expect to see schools with slides between classrooms, rooftop gardens and candy-coloured climbing walls, all created from gingerbread and decorated with generous amounts of icing and sweets.

In past years, we've spotted replicas of London landmarks including Battersea Power Station and Tate Modern among the biscuity buildings, and even working miniature trains weaving their way through the sugary scenery.

The exhibition, organised by the Museum of Architecture, has a new home for this year, at Coal Drops Yard in King's Cross. Though the exhibits are *technically* edible, no nibbling is allowed, but if you do get peckish, gingerbread house workshops are held on site, using gingerbread freshly baked by EL&N Deli and Bakery. That said, at £79 for two-to-four people, the workshops aren't London's cheapest festive activity.
