Carnaby's lights will be in colour this year.

The date for Carnaby Street's Christmas lights switch-on has been announced.

The lights on the Soho shopping street will go on from Thursday 6 November 2025 — entitled 'All is Bright'. It's a reprise of last year's 'Into the Light' illuminations scheme, consisting of several six-metre-long sculptural light forms made from 60,000 energy-efficient LEDs, suspended over the pedestrianised thoroughfare.

The big difference in 2025 is that the chunky, Minecraft-esque star/cracker-shaped lights will radiate in a multitude of bright colours — in contrast to last year's muted palette of, er, white. This seems more in tune with Carnaby Street's recent festive aesthetic, which has featured the likes of floating planets, and incandescent Queen lyrics.

The lights are designed to be used for at least the next four Christmas seasons, though they can be programmed to allow for new features and adjustments. Maybe by 2029 they'll sing and dance too.

The date for Covent Garden's Christmas lights switch-on has also been announced.
