The Black-Owned Hackney markets: great in every season, but surely best of all when spring/summer lands.

To be fair, we've seen and been part of the big crowds that the night markets, run by BlackEatsLDN, can draw even in the depths of winter. But their summer line-up announcement: over the last couple of years that's become one of the annual milestones that let you start to feel like, okay, long days and warm nights might be on the horizon now for real.

What's happening?

A free market in Bohemia Place in Hackney — two minutes away from Hackney Central station, and conveniently close to a lot (a lot) of great taprooms, clubs, and afterparties.

Expect a regularly-changing lineup of traders including street food stalls, designers, artisan makers, DJ sets, and more.

The events are part of BlackEatLDN's wider remit — '...celebrating and showcasing the best in Black-owned hospitality businesses across the UK... a space for Black-owned businesses to feel seen and for all types of foodies to explore the incredible food cultures on offer in our communities.'

And the dates?

So far, these are the day and night market dates for 2023 — but keep a watch on the BlackEatsLDN website for more additions to the line-up.

The night markets are on Fridays, from 6-10pm, with the Saturday-Sunday market dates from 12-6pm.

  • 28-30 April
  • 26-27 May
  • 23-25 June
  • 28-30 July
  • 25-26 August
  • 15-17 September
  • 6-8 October

And if you don't want to go to east London?

We cannot relate, but fine: if you want to catch them on the other side of the city, they'll be in south London the final two weekends of May, for the Brockwell Park festival series, including XtheTracks, Project 6, and City Splash, plus others.
