London's most divisive postmodern building will house three art galleries.

This is No.1 Poultry, the pink, stripy building on Bank junction that looks a bit like Bagpuss. We love it. You possibly hate it. But that's cool. Subjectivity makes us human.

From the end of September, the marmite City of London office block will offer further opportunities for aesthetic debate, with the opening of three new art galleries — all free. The galleries and shows have come together thanks to arts charity Hypha Studios, supported by the Cheapside Business Alliance.

The ground-floor spaces will open for a year, and feature 24 exhibitions "by some of today's most exciting contemporary artists and curators".

The debut shows, which open on 24 September 2025, are as follows:

  • Gallery 1: The Turn, a group show exploring suspension and disappearance, curated by Shakthi Shrima.
  • Gallery 2: Blackhorse Lane Makers, in collaboration with recessed.space, presenting sculptural and immersive works by a community of London-based makers.
  • Gallery 3: Material Actors, presented by the Binder of Women collective, inspired by the architecture of No.1 Poultry itself.

None of which tells us very much about what we'll actually see in the galleries. For that, you'll just have to pop along when they open. You might even gain a new appreciation for the architectural marvel that is No. 1 Poultry!

Hypha's No.1 Poultry galleries open 24 September. Entrance is free. The main website does not appear to be live yet, but information about the launch event can be found here.
