The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, kicked off the parade by walking over a giant rainbow flag. The parade began on Portland Street, descending through Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, and Trafalgar Square before winding up in Whitehall. People (and pets) of all ages and backgrounds showed their support, waving multicoloured flags amid a mass of dancing.

More than 30,000 people took part in the official parade itself β€” that's a 25% increase on last year.

Pride 2019 came 50 years after the New York Stonewall Riots, which sparked the modern gay rights movement.

Celebrities including Sir Ian McAllen, RenΓ©e Zellweger and Billy Porter joined the festivities.

One thing I've learnt in 10+ years of photography (the + because I played with my mum's camera a lot when I was younger!) Is that getting something technically perfect is great but capturing genuine emotion is so much more important, which is why I love this picture, she's not in sharp focus, it's not framed perfectly, but look how happy she is, and I was happy to capture that moment. Disclaimer, maybe in another 10 years I'll be able to capture everything and be technically perfect too... . . . . . . . . . . . #street #streetlife #streetphotography #socialdocumentary #photojournalism #thisislondon #timeoutlondon #buzzfeed #pride #pridelondon #londonpride #pridejubilee #prideinlondon #lgbt #gay #queer #girlswholikegirls #boyswholikeboys #drag #parade #celebration #canon #canon80d #sigma #womenphotographers

Happy #londonpride 🌈 I couldn't feel prouder of exactly who I am. . It's been 10 years (a decade???!) since I first snuck off on the train to London Pride, telling my parents I was going to 'see a friend' in the next town. I remember the bittersweet feeling of excitement and utter fear... until I got to Baker Street... it was that moment when, for the first time, I didn't feel alone. . Thank you @prideinlondon. You have always been more than a party and celebration - you gave me the first glimmer of hope for my future that's pictured above. . @rachelphoebee - thank you for being you.
