Our 21 Most Liked Instagram Posts Of 2018

You follow us on Instagram, right? 2018's been quite a year for us — we reached 200k followers, while bringing you images of dogs taking tube trains, poignant tributes to the first world war, stunning vistas taken from way up high and Christmas lights — lots of Christmas lights. Here are the 21 posts that you showed the most love for.

21. An extremely Christmassy John Lewis

This year's John Lewis ad may have been a damp squib, but their Oxford Street store picked up the festive slack. Warning: this may not be the last Christmas picture you see in this list.

20. Cannon Street station's roof

A breathtaking rooftop view — admittedly laced with disappointment, as this garden's not open to the public. Soz.

19. L'Occitane's flowery ceiling

Now THAT'S what we call flower arranging.

We're loving this gorgeous floral installation - you'll find it inside the L'Occitane flagship store on Regent Street.

18. The cobbles and walkways of Shad Thames

Once part of the 'larder of London' during the golden era of ships, today Shad Thames feels like stepping back in time... with added boutique cafes.

17. Flying over Tower Bridge

We personally take pretty much every photo that goes up on our Instagram feed, but when our pal Bill Lehane sent us this aerial shot of London glimmering gorgeously through the gloom, we had to share it with you.

Can't beat touching down in London. Even if it is grey and drizzly. Great pic from @offdutybilll

16. The Women of World War II

International Women's Day prompted us to post this image of the bleak, yet powerful sculpture that remembers the women of the second world war, on Whitehall.

15. Tower Bridge at night

At the beginning of December, we celebrated our 200,000th follower, with this classic shot of Tower Bridge shimmering icy blue. (You're always onto an Instagram winner with Tower Bridge.)

14. It's coming home...

Remember when we nearly kind of sort of almost won the World Cup? Shoreditch was on virtual lockdown, as England fans cheered a 2-0 victory over Sweden, taking their team into the semis. Where they promptly lost, obvs.

Roads are closed in Shoreditch. Why? It’s coming home #🦁🦁🦁

13. Carnaby's Christmas lights... backwards

Oh oh oh... we reckon the people behind these lights knew what they were doing.

12. London Bridge's poppy roundel

The first of two Instagram posts that marked the culmination of the centenary of the first world war. In the interest of transparency: TfL took this one.

11. Leicester Square in the rain

Torrential rain. M&M's world. London has an uncanny habit of making everything look beautiful.

10. A Korean house on a City footbridge

Do-ho Suh caused a stir when he 'dumped' this traditional Korean house onto a pedway above the City. This was also a year when the 'house from Psycho' turned up outside the Royal Academy.

9. The Tower of London's moat of fire

The Tower of London's moat was illuminated with thousands of individual flames, as we marked 100 years since the end of the first world war. Puts a lump in your throat, doesn't it.

We will remember them.

8. Amy Winehouse in Camden Stables

Camden local Amy Winehouse forever presides over her erstwhile stomping ground, in the form of this statue sculpted by Scott Eaton. Just as in real life, she is rarely left alone for a second.

7. Parliament lights up for Pride

More lights! These ones, a rainbow reminder of how far our politics have come over the past few decades. It's important to have uplifting moments like this amid the political maelstrom.

6. A Routemaster in the snow

Remember February's flurry of snow? We captured a Routemaster going about its business through the icy streets of London.

5. A dog heads to Barking

This dog almost certainly wasn't going to Barking, but y'know.

4. Best named passageway in London?

Apparently Man in Moon Passage has witnessed some odd happenings in its time, including the episode in which a famed double bass player requested that a prostitute castrate him. We assume you just liked the name.

3. John Lewis' bauble wall

You again John Lewis! Just address that thank you hamper to Londonist Towers, cheers.

2. Santacon at Vauxhall station

The hilarious/terrifying sight of hundreds upon hundreds of Saint Nicks descending on London looks like a festive glitch in the Matrix. We happened upon these guys early on in the day and wouldn't want to publish images from seven hours later...

BUT WHICH ONE IS REAL?!

1. Kew Gardens' Christmas tunnel

Yep, the top three Instagram posts of 2018 are all from December. Partly, we would venture, due to our swelling number of followers, but also because you obviously ruddy love Christmas. 11,406 of you liked this picture of Kew Gardens' light tunnel (in one of its quieter moments). Attaboy, Kew!

It's that time of year again: Christmas @kewgardens is open for business and looking absolutely enchanting...
