From above, Winter Wonderland look intensely pretty
Think you've seen all of London's Christmas lights? Photographer Jason Hawkes has been up in his helicopter again, this time reporting back with some mesmerising shots of the capital after dark — many capturing 2023's festive illuminations from angles you won't have seen before. As for Winter Wonderland, is there anywhere in London that you CAN'T see it from?
The City of London lit up like a circuit board.Coca-Cola adverts on the Piccadilly Circus screens.The best way to get a peek into Battersea Power Station's private winter gardens? Hire a helicopter.Note the tip of the Shard glowing blue with its 2023 Christmas lights.Even from here, you can spy Winter Wonderland in the distance.From this angle, Sea Containers (illuminated purple, just left of centre) and adjoining buildings really do look like a ship docked on the Thames.Winter Wonderland looks like some alien colony implanted in central London (which, in a way, it is).Everyone's familiar with the Regent Street Christmas angels, but perhaps not from this angle. With Oxford Street, it forms a glowing wishbone.The lights are on at Buckingham Palace... some of them anyway.St Pancras and King's Cross stations radiate gold at night.So too does Somerset House's festive rink... can you spot yourself on the ice?Covent Garden glows with festive cheer — and its Christmas tree still looks spectacular from way up.Leicester Square sprinkled with seasonal lights, while the National Gallery looks golden in the foreground.
