Monday blues? A free brownie should sort you out. Photo: eatingeast on Flickr.

The concept of Blue Monday (supposedly today) is total rubbish of course, but we’re willing to tolerate the idea when it brings us free brownies. Today, Konditor and Cook will be giving away brownies to the first 5,000 customers to visit their six London stores.

The motivation behind the cake-giving was “inspired by a desire to spread some joy at a time of year when days are short, the weather’s cold, the credit card bills are high and the post Christmas blues are in full swing”. To be honest, we don't really mind what their inspiration was because... free brownies.

Customers may choose from five varieties including chocolate chip, the Boston brownie (cranberries and choc chips), the curly whirly brownie (choc chip with cheesecake swirls), the fudge brownie (chocolate with vanilla fudge) and salted caramel and pecan caramel (wheat free with pecans).

Brownies will be allocated on a first come, first served basis of course. Check the website for details of your closest store. Updates on free brownie status will be posted on their Twitter stream.
