As well as announcing in the recent budget that London needs to find half the funding for Crossrail 2 itself, buried in the detail of the Chancellor's statement were a couple of intriguing options.
It seems that the National Infrastructure Commission, as part of its examination of the capital's transport needs, has recommended looking at the possibility of a branch line from Victoria to Penge.
The line would form a new 'mega hub' at Brixton, then come south east to a new station at Penge Central before terminating at Beckenham Junction. We're not expecting to hear confirmation before 2017, but this is very exciting news — a Penge connection to Euston, Islington and Ally Pally.
