For most of the year, the serious piece of bling on wheels that is the Lord Mayor's State Coach is kept snug in the Museum of London, where visitors come and gawk at its resplendence.
But since 1757, the coach has been fulfilling its original purpose — carrying the newly elected Lord Mayor of London from the City to the Palace of Westminster, to swear allegiance to the monarch.
Every November a team of experts prepares the coach for the streets of London, come rain or shine (it's usually the former). This year the Lord Mayor's Show is on 14 November.
