Homer’s Odyssey takes to the streets of London tomorrow with live readings from a truly stellar line-up that includes Ian McKellen, Juliet Stevenson, Toby Jones, Stanley Tucci, Miranda Richardson, Andrew Scott and a whole load more. Bringing to an end the Almeida Theatre’s impressive Greeks season, the epic poem will be read in timed bursts over the whole day at the four different locations below:

  • 8.30am           Almeida Theatre
  • 11.30am          Tower Pier
  • 3.30pm           Islington Town Hall
  • 5.00pm           Secret Location (starting at the Almeida Theatre, Islington)

The readings are free but you will need to register on the website (and be quick since tickets are first come, first served). You're also advised to dress warmly with sturdy shoes as it may involve a bit of Homeric trekking.

The one-off event is co-directed by Almeida artistic director Rupert Goold and Robert Icke (who just had such an impressive hit with the exceptional Oresteia), with other confirmed readers including: Bertie Carvel, Susannah Fielding, Olivia Williams, Tom Bateman, Simon Russell Beale, Robert Sheehan, Lia Williams, Ian Hart, Jeremy Irvine and Indira Varma.

The full reading will also be live-streamed on the theatre’s website here from 9am-9pm on 12 November. It will be shown in the Almeida Theatre’s foyer as well as at a pop-up viewing shop at 129-130 Upper Street (next to the John Salt Bar). You can also follow a live tweet of the event via @AlmeidaTheatre and #Odyssey.
