Two New Mangal Restaurants Open In London Today

You've (we assume) read the title. Two new meaty meccas are opening in London today. Here's a preview.

Sizzle my dizzle.

Flamin Mangal, Peckham

We've been waiting for this new addition to Peckham's Rye Lane to finally open, and today, from 12pm, is the day. We've cast our beadies over a preview of the menu and you can expect spicy Anatolian adana kebabs, lamb and chicken sis (that's cubed meat on skewers for any newbies) and beyti, which is a minced lamb dish. We're also delighted to see they'll be selling a variety of breads baked in their wood-fired oven, including lahmacun at £2.50 (spiced lamb-smeared flat bread), and breads with other toppings such as chicken, and feta with leeks. Unusually for a restaurant about to open, they're being rather secretive about details, so we'd love to hear feedback if anyone makes it down there this week.

Mangal 1.1, Shoreditch

Okay so Mangal 1.1 has been having a bit of a soft launch on the down low this past week, but today is their official opening date. This new venture from the people behind the much loved Mangal Ocakbasi in Stoke Newington will serve some of the classics from the original menu like their lamb chops, kebabs and meze. We're most excited about trying the grilled quails, and the yogurtlu beyti, which is a lamb dish prepared with a yoghurt sauce - like one big tasty mess of cool yoghurt and hot, fatty meat. Yes please. Chef/owner Ercan Cuce, inherited the original business from his father, and he has described the decision to expand to Shoreditch as a "momentous occasion and a natural progression".
