Update: It's all over - false alert, there was no device. The bridge has reopened.
Tower Bridge was closed this afternoon while City of London Police dealt with a "suspect package". Traffic was prevented from entering the busy crossing, while boats were stopped from passing under the structure. Pedestrians were not allowed near it.
We are currently dealing with a suspect package on #TowerBridge. The bridge is closed to all traffic and pedestrians.

Office workers nearby and construction staff working on buildings were also evacuated. Sniffer dogs were on the scene. The bridge reopened around 4.20pm.
