Lock Live Kicks Off Camden Market's Summer Season
Camden Market's summer season arrives in style this July with the third consecutive Lock Live, a free one-day festival stretching from the cobbled top of Stables Market to the pretty canalside at Camden Lock.
This 'boutique urban festival' features two live music stages, global street food, al fresco cocktail bars and hundreds of artisan craft and fashion stalls.
Live music comes from band of the moment Stealing Sheep, the inimitable Cuban Brothers, indie pop band Flyte, six-piece reggae act By The Rivers and one of the UK's favourite DJs, Norman Jay MBE.
Local talent is also key to this market takeover. During the day there will be pop up comedy and spoken word performances from emerging artists as well as appearances by North London Brass, Steel Pan in Motion and Enfield-based S.O.U.P Ukelele.
When hunger kicks in choose from diverse epicurean delights from the best of London’s street food scene. Things will get fruity for cocktail lovers and those with a taste for real ale will appreciate special guest Craft Beer Rising, serving up 12 draft brews.
That's a whole lot of fun and flavour packed into one day but the boutique nature of the festival means you can drink, eat, dance, shop, see bands and still catch the tube home. However, if you're all fired up with Camden love and want to stay on after the main event, seek out the after parties at Proud, Gilgamesh, The Cuban Bar and Dingwalls.
Here's a taste of last year's festival. You'd better book that Friday off work.
If you can't make Lock Live, be consoled. The rest of Camden's special summer events include Summer Night Markets every Thursday until 10pm, and six weeks of fantastic al fresco film screenings courtesy of Backyard Cinema.
Lock Live takes place on 10 July, from 12pm-10pm. Entrance is free. Summer Night Markets run on Thursdays from 30 July for six weeks. Backyard Cinema screenings take place on Weds, Thurs and Fri from 29 July, also for six weeks. Visit camdenmarket.com for more info.
