If you steer clear of poetry or spoken word nights thinking they'll be over-earnest, difficult, uncomfortably emotional, high-brow or boring, here's a night for you that's none of those things.
Fraff brings together a bunch of excellent alternative performers who don't normally do poetry to try just that in front of an audience instructed to throw paper at anyone who puts on a silly voice or tries to slip in a poem about love.
The curator and compere for the night is entertainer, artist and be-sequinned dyslexic Scottee. He'll be aiming to wangle the wordplay out of weirdo musical heroes Bourgeois and Maurice, the nudity-loving Office Party genius Ursula Martinez, "burlesque sex education performer" Rubyyy Jonnes, the Black Cab Poet who leaves verses on his back seat, plus Jon Pointing, about whom we know nothing. Yet.
We're looking forward to the best shitty poem award and composing some crap lines ourselves fuelled by cheap beer and sweets. Still not sure it's for you? The organisers say, "don’t come if you consider yourself a fan of Pam Ayres." Take a look at the last show and decide for yourself.
Fraff is at Rich Mix on 1 May at 8pm. Tickets £8 advance, £10 on the door. Follow the fraffing at #fraff @fraffing
