Desertfest 2014 Brings Doom And Damnation To Camden

Dead Existence

Stupendous barnets, massive beards, devil horns and guitars like mighty weaponry descend on Camden at the end of next week (25-27 April), in the form of Desertfest 2014.

Now in its third year, Desertfest is a heavy metal and stoner rock festival taking place across three of Camden's most formidable venues: the Electric Ballroom, the Black Heart and, obviously, the Underworld. Over 40 brutal acts will take to the three stages during an enormous weekend, and that's probably quite enough size and strength-based synonyms.

Anyone who doesn't know much about metal could be forgiven for thinking it's quite a British and American phenomenon, but the trio of headliners reveals the nonsense behind that theory. OK, so Friday 25 April is headlined by Spirit Caravan of Maryland, who are reforming and playing their first gig in over a decade at the Electric Ballroom. But the following night's headliners are 'noisy Norwegian mentalists' Kvelertak (Norwegian for 'chokehold'), and the final night is topped by Boris. How would our lives have been different over the last few years if the Mayor had actually been a trio of Japanese hardcore sludge-punks? For one night only, we'll be able to find out.

Elsewhere on the line-up are London-based 'sludge warlords' Dead Existence, Brooklyn rockers Hull, fresh from their FA Cup semi-final triumph, and another outfit from our fair city with the majestic name Necro Deathmort. No half measures in a name like that, and this is what they sound like.

The Black Heart is the HQ for Desertfest, where you'll pick up your wristbands and uniforms (aka merchandise). Tickets are available for each individual day as well as for the entire weekend, if you're hard enough.

Desertfest 2014 takes place on 25-27 April and tickets are available from the website.
