Walking The Central Line For The Big Issue Foundation

homelessEvery now and again we come across someone doing something for charity that looks downright like hard work. Philip Crick and Dave Chapman's plan to walk along the entire Central line to raise money for the Big Issue Foundation is one of those things.

The Leyton Orient-loving pair will begin their walk on Friday morning at West Ruislip.Their three-day route will take them from North Acton up the Ealing Broadway branch then on towards Notting Hill Gate. On day two they aim to get to Woodford and day three will start at Epping and go via the Hainault loop to Leytonstone.

Crick is no stranger to long tube-based walks — last year he raised £800 for the Big Issue Foundation walking the Victoria line and has since done the Bakerloo, Hammersmith & City and Circle lines. Their ultimate goal is to walk the entire tube network and visit all the stations. As Crick points out on his donation page:

"As an avid London walker I'm still always shocked to see the number of homeless people forced to endure long cold lonely nights in shop doorways and under bridges. The Big Issue has been running since 1991, offering some of these poor people a chance to take some control of their lives and earn a legitimate income.

"There are a growing number of rough sleepers on the streets of London and it will only increase as unemployment rises, benefits are cut, soaring utility bills, unaffordable rents."
