New Exhibition Celebrates Stockwell Bus Garage

To the uninitiated, the conceptual combo of 'concrete', 'bus garage' and 'Stockwell' does not sound like a winning formula. But Stockwell Garage is more than a bit special. This sprawling 1950s structure is Grade II* listed, and was recently nominated by local author Will Self as London's most important building.

From 11 February it gets another turn in the spotlight, as a photographic exhibition opens in the foyer of that other great early-1950s concrete jewel the Royal Festival Hall. All Aboard for Stockwell features images of the building taken by school children and local community groups, plus oral histories from people who worked there.

All Aboard for Stockwell runs at the Royal Festival Hall, 11-24 February 2013. Entrance is free.
