Ticket Alert: Wilko Johnson @ Koko

Wilko Johnson Farewell Tour Koko Tickets

It is with great sadness that we announce the farewell concert of legendary guitarist Wilko Johnson.

Johnson will play at Camden’s Koko on 6 March as part of a four date tour to thank fans for their support for nearly 40 years of being one of Britain’s most influential guitarists.

The Dr Feelgood founder was recently diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, but rather than subject himself to chemotherapy the 65-year-old rock icon has opted to live on the stage in front of his fans.

Johnson formed Dr Feelgood in Canvey Island, Essex, and quickly became an icon on London’s pub rock scene in the mid-70s – an period wonderfully documented in the Feelgood film Oil City Confidential - and influenced the upcoming punks with their ferocity and the post-punks with Johnson’s jarring angular riffs.

His influence is still felt through the sonic shards of Foals and Franz Ferdinand, and the on stage mannerism of Londonist favourites Drop Out Venus. The show will be recorded for a documentary so his legend will live for new generations of musicians to experience Jonson’s heroics.

Yes, it will be a sad show. But as soon as Wilko’s wide eyes and wielding stutter riffs take over Koko you will know he is enjoying his life, and you should celebrate with him.

Tickets go on sale Monday 21 January.
