All weekend:

WALK: Join a free, organised walk with Walk London's Winter Wanders. Whether you like a long hike or a short amble, choose from 34 routes across London. Free, some walks require booking. Check the website for times and meeting points.

LAUGH: See a funny film at the LOCO London Comedy Film Festival, including the London premiere of Gayby at BFI Southbank, a triple bill tribute to Nora Ephron at the Lexi and a family friendly 50th anniversary screening of the classic Pink Panther movie. Check the websites for prices, tickets and times.

BIRDS: Take an hour out of your weekend to participate in the Big Garden Birdwatch. Do it in your garden or local park, spot and count the visiting birds then send off your results to the RSPB. Free, take part anytime.

ART: Visit the new London Group exhibition at Pitzhanger Manor Gallery, Ealing. There's a nice article about it in the Guardian. Take a gallery tour and see a performance at 2pm. Plus Pitzhanger Manor needs your support, given ambitious conservation and development plans. Visit it! Free, just turn up between 11am-5pm.

BALLET: See Royal Ballet dancers in a new light with a special exhibition of contemporary photos at the Hospital Club, Covent Garden. Free, just turn up between 10am-6pm.

LAST CHANCE TO SEE: Eros to the Ritz: 100 years of Street Architecture at the Royal Academy. Entry included in normal admission fee £8. Closes Sunday at 6pm.

Saturday 26 January

AUSSIES: Happy Australia Day! TNT have lots of suggestions of how to spend your National Day in London ending up at their free entry party on Clapham High Street or you could go to the charitable party at Wessex House in Clapham Junction. Or your local Walkabout, of course.

VARIETY: Entertain the kids with the Hackney Children's Theatre Variety Spectacular featuring juggling, magic, majorettes and more at St John at Hackney Church. Tickets £4, family group of four £13. Show starts 10.30am.

STUDENTS: The Stu Festival is the first ever student food, drink and lifestyle festival to be held at University of London Union. Free goodies if you get there early. Free tickets bookable in advance or £2 on the door, runs from 10am-6pm.

ART: The big Manet exhibition opens at the Royal Academy. Booking your ticket would be wise - adults £15. Open 10am-11pm.

JUMBLE: Support the brilliant alternative artists in The People Show by flocking to their first ever/last ever jumble sale at the People Show Studios, Pollard Row E2. They need to find a new home. Free entry from 11am-7pm.

STREET GAMES: Games-meisters Firehazard run Citydash: Storm across Central London, inviting you to "run, sneak, scheme and succeed" with three friends, solve clues, dodge guards and beat the other teams. Tickets £12, book your team, starts 1.30pm.

UNDERGROUND: Watch the premiere of a documentary following Shaun Buswell on The 12.12.12 Underground Orchestra Challenge, recruiting musicians from London Underground passengers. Then hear them play in a one-off charity gig at Shepherds Bush Empire. Tickets from £11.25, book. Doors open 7pm.

COMEDY: Sketch group Delete the Banjax are splitting up, but before they go you can see them one last time at the Pleasance. Also appearing are Colin Hoult and Lady Garden. Tickets £8, book, starts 7.30pm.

BOOKS: Bookstock is back at The Green Man by Great Portland Street station, with Keith Kahn-Harris, Ruby Soames, Ben Crystal, Tim Griggs, Andrew Byrne and Dave Chawner. Tickets £6, book, starts 7.30pm.

SNOWMEN: Dress up as a snowman (woman or creature) and you'll get free entry to Club de Fromage at Islington Academy. Doors open 10.30pm.

Sunday 27 January

REMEMBER: It's Holocaust Memorial Day. Find events near you at the HMD website.

CONSERVATION: Join in conservation and clean up activities on Chiswick Eyot with Thames 21. Free, but please book your place, session runs 9-11am.

BOARDWALK EMPIRE: Watch the whole of series one at Roxy Bar & Screen. Tickets are £15, including breakfast and two cocktails. Doors open at 9.30am for breakkie, screening from 10.30am-10.30pm.

SPUDS: The London Charity Potato Fair (see photo!) and Seedy Sunday takes place at Sydenham School, Forest Hill. A fine chance to . A chance to buy and swap over 80 varieties of potato seeds and find out the best way to grow them. Free entry, just turn up from 11am-3pm.

EAST END: The Jewish East End Extravaganza is a free family festival at Rich Mix, with workshops, film, puppetry and an exhibition. Free entry, just turn up, from 11am-4.30pm.

VINTAGE: Claim a free ticket to the Primrose Hill Vintage Fashion Fair at Cecil Sharp House by visiting their website. Otherwise, £3 on the door. Open 11am-5pm.

OUT OF THIS WORLD ENTERTAINMENT: It's Helen Keen's Spacetacular! co-organised by Londonist at Leicester Square Theatre. We're putting on one helluva show with Helen Keen, funded by the UK Space Agency, no less. Turn up in tin foil and prepare to be entertained by comedians, scientists, music and quizzing. Tickets £10, book or just turn up, starts 7.30pm.
