The Lost Lectures: New Evenings Announced

Longtime readers will already know the drill for the Lost Lectures. Each evening features six speakers on a complete mix of intellectual topics, sharing a stage in an unusual and unpublicised (except to ticket holders) venue.

The next pair take place on 29-30 August. The only clue we get to the venue is that there'll be some kind of aquatic theme, with the audience sat on inflatable rings.

Wednesday 29 August (7.30-10.30 pm)

  • Alastair Humphreys: Worldwide adventurer and founder of Microadventures, encouraging people to explore their local great outdoors.
  • Jen Smith & Rich Brown: Directors of The Amazings, a social initiative that helps retired people share their skills with others.
  • Dr Helen Scales: Aptly named marine biologist, saviour of wildlife and biographer of the sea horse.
  • Dennis Morris: Celebrated photographer who worked extensively with Bob Marley and the Sex Pistols, among many others.
  • Chris Wild: Creator of the ever-popular Retronaut.
  • Robin and Partridge: Extreme improv comedians who promise the first audience-directed lecture.

Thursday 30 August (7.30-10.30 pm)

  • Mel Young: Founder of the Homeless World Cup, which unites homeless people through the medium of football.
  • Liz Ann Bennett: Founder of Oh Comely magazine, a thinking person's lifestyle mag (it's so much more, but we're not thinking-person enough to come up with a better soundbite).
  • CERN Scientist: They do have real names, honestly. It's just that the Lost Lectures hasn't quite confirmed which of two big names it will be.
  • Prof Jacquie McGlade: Executive Director of the European Environmental Agency. Blimey.
  • Sixth Form Poet: Twitter legend.
  • The Great Puppet Horn: Puppet masters with savvy satire.

Both evenings will also include demonstrations and performances during breaks, and food and drink is available throughout. Tickets cost £18.59 and can be booked here (Wed) or here (Thur).
