London Statues Get New Hats

The statue of Lord Nelson in Trafalgar Square this morning sports a new hat, featuring the Union Flag and an Olympic torch. The millinery intervention is part of Hatwalk, an initiative to give fresh headgear to 20 of London's most famous statues as part of the Mayor of London's Surprises festival.

Horatio's hat was created by Lock & Co, the oldest milliners in London and creators of his original tricorn. Other statues with new hats include Winston Churchill in Parliament Square (but will it top this?) and William Shakespeare in Leicester Square. The gaudy adornments will remain in place until the end of the week.

Hatwalk is a collaboration between the Mayor of London, BT, Grazia magazine, theBritish Fashion Council and the London 2012 Festival.
