London is centre stage at the moment so artists that paint our fair city are seeing increased demand for their work. Panter & Hall are exhibiting two painters who focus on depicting London, but at different time periods.
First up is Greville Irwin who painted London in 1935 when King George V celebrated his silver jubilee. There are many celebratory moments captured including a parade through London, much like this year's, and the royal guard and cavalry feature prominently.
Taking a more contemporary approach is Ross Ashmore who's travelled the underground network and captured the energy of various stations with his sweeping brushstrokes. His works highlight the transition that occurs from day to night despite all stations remaining a hive of activity.
Both these artists bring their own style and time period to highlighting the beauty and majesty of London.
Greville Irwin: Jubilee 1935 - An eyewitness of Royal pageantry between the Wars is on display until 3 August. Ross Ashmore: Going Underground is on from 6-17 August. Both exhibitions are on display at Panter & Hall, 27 Bury Street SW1Y 6AL.
