Fire Brigade Advises Getting A Takeaway After The Match

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) are encouraging us to get a takeaway after boozing it up while watching the football, instead of trying to cook something ourselves and burning the house down.

It turns out that "young, well-educated city dwellers" are responsible for about a quarter of London's fires and that a quarter of fire deaths involve someone who'd been drinking. So rather than leaving the gas on, the LFB would rather we chuck some money into the local economy and pick up a pizza or kebab.

It isn't the first time this tactic has been employed (there were similar pleas over Christmas) but it is the first time adverts have been translated, inspired by the news that London is France's sixth biggest city. As well as French, ads will appear in Polish, Ukrainian, German, Russian, Portuguese and Spanish newspapers. (Though France and England fans' biggest problem last night will likely have been waking up enough to eat anything at all.)

Of course, you could always eat where you're drinking: Passport Diary have put together a list of country-appropriate pubs to watch the football in, or if you want to pretend you're actually there have a look at our recommendations of where to eat Polish food in London.
