Pop-Up Cinema Arrives In Stratford

The bright young things at Assemble are at it again. Having brought London the Cineroleum in 2010, and the Folly for a Flyover last year, their project this summer is a pop-up cinema on the fringes of the Olympic site in Stratford.

Sugarhouse Studios is a converted sign-writer's workshop just off Stratford High Street. The group have turned it into a 200-seater cinema and will be showing films, mixing cocktails and serving up food over the next few weekends. Cleaving to Assemble's love of the temporary, the entire building is scheduled for demolition in 2013.

Things kicked off last night with The Long Good Friday, and more films and performances are planned over the coming weeks. See the listings calendar for more information.

Sugarhouse won't be the only east London pop-up screen in town: the floating cinema that plied the byways of the Lea last summer is set to return this year too.
