East in East: Euro 2012 @ Rich Mix

With Eurovision over, a void has opened. Where can we now watch fellow European nations engage in a highly competitive activity, while we sit back muttering "It’s all political...we were far better", and "yeah, well, we got the Olympics. So…so there".

The most (chrono)logical event to set your sights on next is Euro 2012, and Rich Mix have got it covered in superb style with East in East, a 20-day festival of Eurocentric fun. Not only will all matches be shown on a giant screen, but the Shoreditch arts hub has also teamed up with some amazing London-based Eastern-European artists to bring you post-match treats including spoken word, Djs, live music, films and art exhibitions.

Highlights include award-winning klezmer ensemble She’koyokh, providing vibrant music for a little post-England v Ukraine dance, and a special edition of Tilt spoken word, London Liming goes Euro, featuring poets from Poland and Slovakia.

The games begin with Poland v Greece on the 8 June, but you can get your Eastern bloc fix early, when the festival officially kicks-off (pun intended) on 6 June, showcasing two photo exhibitions, a rocking gig and closing jam session.

And this best bit? It’s all totally free. Free footie, free fun. What’s not to love? Besides England losing, of course.*

Please note all events are free, with the exception of Mahala Rai Banda, Thursday 7 June, £12.50 Adv/£15 Door. Rich Mix is at 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, E1 6LA

*We reserve the right to edit out this sentence in the highly unlikely event we actually win.
