The annual hip-hop dance theatre festival Breakin’ Convention once again takes over all levels of Sadler’s Wells theatre. Expect a melting pot of DJs, graffiti artists and dance groups of all ages (but mostly young) scattered everywhere, with competing crews shaking the building with their moves. The French Ballet Preljocaj have produced beautiful abstract works for years, but for this ballet they stick to the narrative form of Snow White, with fine couture costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier. Sadler's Wells, 7.30pm on 10-12 May, tickets £12-£38.
It’s been 100 years since Nijinksy shocked audiences with L’Apres midi d’un faune, so the ballet is not having its first airing this year and this will no doubt be its last, but seeing a Rambert dancer tackle the role is something worth watching. Testosterone is the theme of the show, with the addition of battle-infused SUB by Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili. Sadler's Wells, 7.30pm on 15-19 May, tickets £12-£38.
Matthew Bourne is a British institution these days, with his multiple remakes of classic fairytale ballets. Not many people have seen his Early Adventures however; quirky little numbers that often mock Britishness and reveal his early promise, yet are as accessible as his larger works. Sadler’s Wells 21-26 May at 7.30pm, tickets £12-38.
Swingers unite at the end of May to celebrate swing dance at London Swing Festival from the Charleston to Jitterbug in jubilee style, ending with a fancy dress ball accompanied by the University of London Big Band. The festival features competitions, workshops, showcases, a BBQ and lots of keen dancers. Bishopsgate Institute (and various local venues) 31 May-3 June, tickets £60-£160.
