A cold, grey day was instantly transformed as Alternative Fashion Week 2012 sprang into life in Spitalfields yesterday.

Synonymous with colour and riotous imagination, day one brought such delights as Jar and Jam's re-visioning of hats, belts, suspenders and umbrellas. Manx Idol, by Faye De-Boorder, took inspiration from famed YouTube dancer Beckii Cruel, encapsulating her cutesy style, while Klue’s ‘Dance with a Stranger’ showed us the 1950’s American-style pop art swimwear we could be wearing come sunnier days.

A latex fix came from ‘Lucky Dame’ whose vibrant candy floss designs took on the essence of Mexican sugar skulls and the 'my girl lollipop' theme of Chloe Hayward’s (Hatastic) collection included real sweets sewn into her signature headpieces.

On every day this week until Saturday, why not grab a piece of the action — it's FREE!

Alternative Fashion Week runs 16-21 April. Catwalk shows start at 1.15pm daily. Fashion  market 11am-5pm daily @ Spitalfields Traders Market, Crispin Place, Brushfield St, London E1 6AA (Liverpool St Station)
