London Gallery Hop: 23 March 2012

Louise Bourgeois: The Return of the Repressed: Previously discussed as a venue by Louise Bourgeois before her death, the Freud Museum hosts this show featuring original documents from the artist's recently discovered psychoanalytic writings, as well as drawings and sculptures. In the final home of Sigmund Freud and his daughter Anna Freud, The Return of the Repressed explores the artist's complex and ambivalent engagement with the theory and practice of psychoanalysis. Opened 8 March, the exhibition runs until 27 May at Freud Museum London, 20 Maresfield Gardens, NW3 5S.

Jean Dubuffet: Late Paintings by Jean Dubuffet (1975–82): An exhibition of works from the last decade of Dubuffet's life includes pieces which have never been viewed by the public before and reveals the a “conclusive shift in style and technique” that occurred during the “low art” creator's final years, where he reverted to strong colours and basic imagery, depicting figures and spaces with no identifying features. The show is on now and runs until 14 April at Waddington Custot Galleries, 11 Cork Street, W1S 3LT. Free.

Stations of the Elevated: Long time east London local Mike Ballard's latest offering is a new body of work inspired by Manfred Kircheimer's 1979 film of early New York subway painting. A stark assemblage of complex, draw-you-in collages, paintings and prints, Mike's “constructed environments” serve as windows into “spaces that destabilise our sense of place”. The effect is very street, retro yet futuristic, a little bit frightening and incredibly mesmerizing. Stations of the Elevated opens today and runs until 23 April at Arch 402, Cremer Street, E2 8HD. Free.

Power Game: For one night only, the Zabludowicz Collection will transform into a casino and guests will be invited to gamble on the power of words. First staged in 1974, Power Game is a live unrehearsed performance that investigates the politics of power and rhetoric. Played as an altered game of Chemin de Fer using a pack of word cards created by Liliane Lijn, each game is transformed by the personalities of the players at the table and how they interpret the meanings of the words they are dealt. Power Game will be performed 19 April from 7pm at Zabludowicz Collection, 176 Prince of Wales Road, NW5 3PT. Free but you must book in advance to attend.
