London Food & Drink News: 15 March 2012

In the future, every London pub will belong to Ed and Tom Martin. Or so it seems when one tries to keep track of how often these fellows launch a new venue for elbow bending. As long as the pubs are as smartly planned out as their new  Jugged Hare near the Barbican (site of the too long vacant old King's Head pub), then such ETM ubiquity might not be such a bad thing after all. Like taxidermy, pub grub done up kinda fine and Frenchy, big wine lists and British cask ales? A visit to the Hare might be worth your time.

Malabar Junction, Great Russell Street's south Indian restaurant with “its roots planted firmly in Kerala” has introduced a traditional lunchtime thali. Priced at £9.95, the thali offers a chance to sample “a taste of the Malabar Coast” and features dishes such as mini masala dosa (pancake filled with potato masala), rasam (made from hot pepper, tomatoes, tamarind juice, ginger, garlic and spices), payasam (a traditional South Indian dessert of vermicelli cooked in cardamom flavoured milk with raisins and cashew nuts) and more.

OXO Tower is launching a series of “Meet The Maker” sessions with premium spirits. The first event, on Tuesday 20 March will be held with Banks 5 Island Rum, a premium blended white rum, which is new to the UK and hosted by Jim Meehan, Banks 5i ambassador and owner of 'PDT' cocktail bar in New York and Arnaud de Trabuc, Banks 5i master blender. Tickets are priced at £30 and include a selection of OXO bar bites. To book, contact OXO Tower reservations on 020 7803 3888 or email oxo.reservations@harveynichols.com.

Taste of London tickets went on sale this week offering a chance to check out an “impressive line up of Michelin starred restaurants” (such as Pollen Street Social, Bar Boulud, Whitechapel Gallery, The Corner Room, Barbecoa) and “world renowned chefs” (such as Jason Atherton, Theo Randall, Wolfgang Puck, Nuno Mendes, Bruno Loubet, David Chang). ToL will take place between 21 and 24 June in Regent's Park. Standard entry only tix for adults start at £24.
