Ticket Alert: The Other Cinema Screens Brief Encounter

Fans of immersive cinema events, get ready on your booking buttons at 1pm today (27 January). That's when tickets go on sale for the first outing of The Other Cinema, the latest venture from the organisation behind the ridiculously popular Secret Cinema.

The inaugural event includes a screening of David Lean's classic tale of impossible love, Brief Encounter. Appropriately, it takes place on Valentine's night, 14 February, in the cavernous Troxy, near Limehouse, which will be spruced up to fit the period. Attendees are encouraged to '"dress in black-tie each carrying a flower for a lover or a stranger". It's one sophisticated, glorious pulling opportunity, basically.

So how's this different from Secret Cinema? "The Other Cinema will meet once a month on the same night all over the world," explains founder Fabien Rigall. "We want to bring back the idea of local cinema and allow the most important films both old and new to get seen and talked about.” For the first event, Brief Encounter will be briefly encountered in London, Edinburgh, Leeds, Birmingham and Norwich simultaneously. Anyone can put on future events in the Other Cinema umbrella, and details can be found on their Facebook page.

If you can't get a ticket for Valentine's night, further screenings take place on 15-18 February. Get tickets from 1pm here.

The Other Cinema's screening of Brief Encounter takes place at the Troxy, 490 Commercial Road  London E1 0HX, on 14-18 February from 7.30pm. Tickets are £20/£15.
