Reminder: Thames Tunnel Super Sewer Consultation

Have you had your say on Thames Water's plans for a Thames Tunnel 'super sewer' yet?

The consultation closes on 10 February so there's still time for you to bone up on the arguments. There were some very interesting comments on our original post alerting people to the consultation launch, and we've rounded up as many sources of information about the proposals here to help you get up to speed.

If we've missed something, please let us know in the comments.

Thames Tunnel Now is a pro-tunnel coalition of 15 major environmental charities, including RSPB, WWF-UK, Thames21, London Wildlife Trust, Thames Rivers Restoration Trust and Marine Conservation Society.

An inquiry sponsored by the London boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Southwark, Richmond and the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea says the plan should be reviewed. You can read the Thames Tunnel Commission report here.

Local campaigning groups oppose current plans that will see seven years of tunnelling on their doorsteps or blighting green spaces:

- Don't Dump on Deptford's Heart, re Deptford Church Street green.

- Save King Edward Memorial Park, Shadwell, Tower Hamlets

- Save King's Stairs Gardens (known locally as Park 2000) in Rotherhithe

- Residents Against The Sewer In Fulham, re Carnwath Road construction site

- Stop the Shaft - Putney & Barnes, re Barn Elms playing fields

- Save Your Riverside, Chambers Wharf Southwark

And here is Thames Water putting the case.

You have until 10 February to contribute to the consultation.

Fulham residents should note there is a public meeting on 28 January at Hurlingham and Chelsea School, Peterborough Road, SW6 3ED between 10am-4pm.
