Book, poetry and spoken word events in London this week

Wednesday: Evan Davies discusses the state of Britain at Foyles on Charing Cross Road (6pm, free, email futurecitiesproject-at-gmail.com to reserve a place).

Four of Graft Poetry's writers are at the Southbank Centre: Julia Deakin, Nicholas Bielby, Adam Strickson and Andrew Boobier (8pm, free).

Thursday: Giles Abbott is telling stories at the Tea Box in Richmond from 8pm (£6).

Friday: Kat Francois hosts a night of SLAM poetry at the Poetry Cafe (8pm, £5 / £3).

Poets Anonymous meet in South Norwood tonight from 8pm (£2).

Saturday: Meet children's author Anne Stairmand at Waterstone's Croydon (10am).

Monday: Toppermost poet Simon Armitage chats about his new version of The Alliterative Morte Arthure at the British Library (6.30pm, £7.50 / £5).

Exiled Writers Ink poets Eric Ngalle Charles, Abol Froushan, Bart Woolfe, Ali Abdolrezaei and Fathieh Saudi talk about arrivals and departures at the Poetry Cafe (7.30pm, £4 / £2).

Suzanna Fitzpatrick, James McKay, Ian McLachlan and Martin Marriott are Talking Rhythm! at Cafe Crema in New Cross (7.30pm, £3).

Tuesday: Mario Petrucci hosts the regular drop-in session from Poet in the City at Waterstone's Piccadilly. It's about resolutions this month (6.30pm, email to reserve a place).

Try out your rhythms and rhymes at the Poetry Cafe's open mic night, hosted by Niall O'Sullivan (7.30pm, £5 / £4).
