Preview: Festival of Fairytales for Grown-Ups

This may just be the most exciting alternatively Christmassy thing that's flashed on to our screens this December. Five whole days (14-18 December) of adult storytelling, set in a haunting (nice way of saying derelict) old building near the Oxo Tower*. The Crick Crack Club, one of London's best-known forums for storytelling, has put together a wondrous package of risque art, film, comedy and story. Lots of stories.

You can see the full programme here, but we have selected a few highlights for you anyway. Circuit veteran Ben Haggarty is sure to give a stomping good performance: try The Soldier and Death on the opening day. On the same day for good measure, we like the look of Xanthe Gresham's Hecate Tango. On Saturday we've earmarked Sally Pomme Clayton's retelling of the tale of the White Bear.

Anyway – just go. This sort of event stays with you long after it's over. Most of the tickets are a fiver, so it's not going to break the seasonal bank. You can book here. We look forward to your feedback.

*This means that you should dress up warm and leave your stilettos at home.
