Thames Clipper Crashes Into Pier

The 18:39 eastbound river commuter service from Blackfriars crashed into Tower pier last night.

Tower RNLI lifeboat crew attended the scene and gave first aid to 14 passengers.

Around 50 people were on board, including one member of the Thames Clippers Discussion Group who reports that a passenger in a wheelchair was seriously hurt and another may have suffered a cracked jaw, whilst many may have suffered whiplash from the impact. Four people were taken to hospital.

The Moon Clipper catamaran did not sink and no other vessels were involved. There's no report of the incident on the Thames Clippers' website as yet. An investigation into what happened will be carried out by Metropolitan Police Marine Policing Unit in conjunction with the Port of London Authority (PLA) and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB).
