London Gallery Hop: 16 September 2011

A selection of gallery exhibitions currently on show in London and worth making time to view.

SuperMen – An Exhibition of Heroes: Ben Turnbull's new series of collages constructs modern day heroes from fragment so vintage comic books to mark the ten year anniversary of 9/11 and celebrate the “real life heroes” (firemen, police, first responders) of the World Trade Center attacks. On view Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 11am-6pm, Thursday 11am-7pm and Saturday 11am-4pm from 16 September to 22 October at Eleven, 11 Eccleston Street, SW1W 9LX. Free.

Alex Daw and Cyclops: Street art and high art blend in this collaborative exhibition featuring a series of works including paintings, collages, drawings, photography and installations “of an obsessive nature to criticise and de-construct objects that result in a series of compelling mementos of modern life.” By appointment at Beauchamp Club, 30 Beauchamp Place, SW3 1NJ until 30 September. Visit www.newcontemporary.co.uk for contact details. Free.

Happy Deep Inside My Heart: Vibrant new solo show from British painter Antony Micallef exploring “life in London through sensations of light and dark, mirrored in both his palette and his choice of imagery.” Says Micallef of his art, “My work is like a Disney film that slowly turns into violent pornography.” See what he means Tuesday through Saturday 11am-7pm until 15 October at Lazarides Rathbone, 11 Rathbone Place, W1T 1HR. Free.

Compassion for the Kabaris: Delhi’s Wastepickers at the heart of a bold new green initiative: 19 photographs by Indian photojournalist Raghu Rai vividly portray the lives of waste-pickers who “comb through the tons of waste dumped on Delhi’s biggest landfill site, Ghazipur, recycling as they go.” The show runs Monday to Friday 8.30am-6.30pm until 30 September at William Road Gallery, 7-9 William Road, NW1 3ER. Free.
