Preview: Edible Gardens Open Day

If you are, or aspire to be a tomato grower, herb nurturer, salad wrangler or any kind of balcony, pot, windowsill or rooftop food gardener, get inspiration from this Saturday's Edible Gardens Open Day.

Over 50 of the capitals urban 'food-farms' will be free to look around. All the spaces are members of Capital Growth campaign to support 2012 community food-growing spaces by the end of 2012.

You can also join the 'Edible Estates' walking tour round Tower Hamlets for a donation of a fiver or get on your bike for two different 3 hour cycle tours of north and east london gardens. Find all the info here and email to book your place.

So get out there and take advantage of free garden tours, talks, advice and games, as well as the opportunity to buy locally grown grub and garden produce, and eat homemade food yards from where it first germinated.

The Londonist balcony garden unfortunately won't be open on Saturday but anyone who wants to drop by Willow Street, Shoreditch and look up will be able to see our sprawling tomato plants waving above our balcony.
