Heads Up: Royal Opera House Costume Sale

Here's a novel way to rustle up some cash for your arts organisation - flog off your old costumes. The Royal Opera House have cleaned our their wardrobes and are putting all sorts of opera and ballet garments and accessories up for sale to the public.

Whether you're a balletomane looking for a piece of dance history, an opera buff wanting to feel like Don Carlo or simply a fancy-dress-up fiend or curious costumier, there will be something for you.

It's likely that if this news excites you it could be a fascinating day out rummaging through (and trying on) archive performance wear whether you actually manage to purchase that tutu, hat or doublet.

Prices range from £20-500 and the sale takes place over the weekend of 24-25 September at the ROH production warehouse in the Thames Gateway. The warehouse sits in a 14 acre site that has walled gardens and an orchard, a cafe and a children’s play area and is just a half hour train ride from Fenchurch Station with a 15 min walk when you get to Purfleet. All proceeds go back into funding work at ROH.
