Happy Birthday Krishna! Celebrate at Bhaktivedanta Manor

OK - so this is just about as far as we would presume to rove from Londonist Towers: but it is such a colourful and fun event that we couldn't resist telling you about it.

This Sunday and Monday (21st and 22nd August) sees a huge festival at Bhaktivedanta Manor (just before Watford, and only just outside the M25) to celebrate Janmashtami: the birthday of Lord Krishna.

Judging by footage of previous years it will be loud and colourful and moving and fun and all the things that you could possibly want from a festival. You may even learn something, as there will be an outdoor walk-through exhibition chronicling Krishna's life. There will be face painting and cow decorating and vegetarian food and singing and dancing. And the opportunity to have a look around the manor, itself of historical interest - it was purchased for and donated to the Hare Krishnas by George Harrison, and is noted for its beautiful grounds. It is also the largest cow protection farm in the UK.

The event is free (although donations are always welcome) and is run by teams of dedicated volunteers. It runs from 12 noon 'til late both days. Go. Have fun. Just don't forget to take some pictures for our flickr pool.
