Dalston's Shacklewell Arms has new owners. With the relaunches of Eat Your Own Ears and Pub on the Park listed as creditials, the proprietors promise to serve real ciders and ales such as Yorkshire brewery Copper Dragon’s Golden Ale at the Shacklewell along with “homemade traditional” pub grub and a wider food menu to roll out over the summer.
Jun Tanaka and Mark Jankel's sustainability focused Street Kitchen is back. After its successful launch during last year's London Restaurant Festival, the vintage silver Airstream will re-open for business from 27 June for three months serving “British bistro-style lunches” between 11.30am and 2.30pm at Broadgate Monday to Friday for the first two weeks, then Tuesday through Thursday until the end of September. Typical take-away dishes might include crisp lamb shoulder with wet garlic, carrots and mint dressing and black bream with smoked aubergine and roast tomato vinaigrette with prices coming in around £4.50 to £7.50.
For more Tanaka tastings, Jun will host a series of al fresco seafood masterclasses and barbecues in the courtyard of Renaissance London Chancery Court hotel (home of his Pearl Restaurant and Bar) on High Holborn over three Sunday afternoons from 12.30pm to 4pm during July and August (10 July, 31 July and 7 August). Upon arrival, guests will be welcomed with a glass of bubbly before Jun demonstrates a series of alternative barbecue dishes, such as scallops baked in the shell with lime, chilli and yuzu and rosemary-smoked mackerel married with horseradish crème fraiche. During each masterclass, guests will have the opportunity to quiz the chef and have their cooking queries answered.
