Kilburn A Contender For London Underground In Bloom?

Members of Transition Town Kensal to Kilburn have created an allotment on the platform of Kilburn Tube Station in a bid to win this year's London Underground in Bloom.

The four raised beds were forlorn and neglected until TTKK persuaded TFL to let them plant them up with fruit and veg. As the allotment blooms, the community minded members of TTKK want commuters to not only enjoy the sprouting display but help themselves to fresh, hyper-local produce on their way home. It is also hoped the platform planting will inspire a proliferation of urban gardens in Kilburn and Kensal's rooftops, windowsills and balconies.

Speaking of which, watch this space. Londonist Towers' balcony is in line for a green transformation...

TFL will launch London Underground in Bloom 2011 in the summer so there's still time for other contenders to get growing.
