Live Music Preview: Gomez @ The Roundhouse

Gomez are back with their seventh studio album and a tour that stops off at the Roundhouse on 21 June.

The band that looks like a bunch of groovy yet shambolic geography teachers on stage wrote the new album virtually. Sharing homemade demos online they created 'musical chain letters' between LA, Brooklyn and Brighton. The resulting 10 track, 38 minute record seems to boil down the best of all previous albums and transmute it into new songs.

The dreamy, string backed title track Whatever's On Your Mind reminds you that Ben's voice can be angelic as well as outrageous, harking back to Here Comes the Breeze or We Haven't Turned Around. New single Options has the bouncy bass of Whipping Piccadilly and the poppiness of Girlshapedlovedrug whilst Song In My Heart has all the Gomez trademarks; brews electronica with indie and layers vocals to come up with a dead catchy happy tune. Gomez sound and feel fresh. They might even be having fun.

Have a listen to Options via the video trailer on the Gomez facebook page. New album is out 6 June. More info at www.gomeztheband.com.

Gomez play The Roundhouse, Chalk Farm Road, NW1 on 21 June. Tickets £20.
