Now that summer is sort of almost nearly officially here, a variety of interesting outdoor cinema strands are emerging around London. Latest to throw its hat into the ring is Pop Up Screens, who are transforming Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith into an open-air cinematic idyll for the late May bank holiday weekend.
Three films are being shown between Friday and Sunday in the West London park. Perennial cult favourites Anchorman, The Big Lebowski and Ghostbusters will delight geeky film lovers, and tickets — which cost a West End-beating £7 — are being sold alongside some rather lovely specially designed posters and t-shirts, featuring quotes from the selected movies.
Hot popcorn, booze and Ostrich burgers will all be available to accompany your al fresco film experience. It can be a gamble weather-wise, but outdoor film screenings are always a memorable and summery jaunt. Other open-air options are the Nomad Cinema (see our preview), while The Scoop and Somerset House are yet to release their programmes. This may be your first chance this year to see a film in the sun.
Pop Up Screens is at Ravenscourt Park 27-29 May, 7pm. Tickets £7 or £18 for full weekend.
