Britain Will Wrestle At London 2012

The British Olympic Association confirmed yesterday that Team GB will field wrestlers at the 2012 Olympics.

British Wrestling has been improving steadily over the last 4 years, winning more and more world class matches. The squad aim is to qualify 3 - at an ambitious push, 5 - athletes directly for London 2012 but the BOA decision means that 3 host nation places are at their disposal, in any weight category and any gender across the two Olympic wrestling disciplines of freestyle and Greco-Roman, should they be required.

Wrestling on home soil has major podium heritage to inspire Team GB. In the London 1908 Olympic Games, Great Britain won eleven Freestyle Wrestling medals.

Wrestling is one of the oldest Olympic sports and Greco-Roman Wrestling was included in the first modern Olympics to give a flavour of the ancient Games.

Wrestling takes place at ExCel Arena between 5-12 August. There is a fortnight left to apply for Olympic tickets.
