The folly for us was showing up on the late side of the launch of this new, city slick bar and restaurant. The place was heaving and the bar staff seemed slightly overwhelmed (but it must be said there were free drinks on offer).

Open for breakfast, brunch, dinner and with a late license until 1am on Thursdays and Fridays, a “mixology table”, a flower shop, a deli, a secret garden, an “evolving pop-up shop providing guests with something current, seasonal and fun to explore time and time again” and more: there's a lot going on to suck the cash from City Workers here.

Rubbing elbows with the fairly glam guest list attendees, we enjoyed sampling some of The Folly's canapés. Salt and pepper squid (emphasis on the salt) was pretty good, mini fish and chips pleased well enough and lil square sticks of “mini beef burgers on focaccia” were tasty.

Located at 40 Gracechurch Street, EC3V 0BT, The Folly is worth considering if in need of an all-in-one urban oasis. Visit www.thefollybar.co.uk for more information.
