Just edging out 'dog bites man' as BBC London's top story of the morning, Met commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson has said that he's a fan of sticking criminals in prison. Speaking to LBC, Mr. Stephenson, who took the job after Boris Johnson effectively sacked his precedessor, Sir Ian Blair, indicated that he wasn't convinced by recent comments from Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke on the need for alternatives to the clink; of sticking crims behind bars, the police chief confessed that he "rather like[s] it". Should play well with the sections of the tabloids that believe indefinite jail sentences and an ever-expanding prison population are a cure for all societal ills.
